GRADE 6 PROJECT 2012!

The Grade 6 students have been busy this term working on their Grade 6 Project.  This year the students’ task was to mosaic some garden pots.  There were 5 pots, 4 circular ones and 1 rectangular.  The four circular ones symbolised a different season each - Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring.  The rectangular says ‘Grade 6 2012’.  Students worked in pairs and in groups to come up with a design for their part of the pot incorporating the theme ie Winter.

Students began by drawing their design on some cardboard using their theme as a guide.

After this they selected the pieces of tiles, mirrors and marbles they would need and created the shapes by hammering pieces using correct safety equipment and also using nippers to shape the pieces.

Next the students used blu tak to stick the pieces onto the design and once this was completed glued the pieces in place on the pots.

The final step in the mosaic process was to grout the work, covering the whole design and then wiping away the excess and polishing off the tiles.

Once this was completed and the pots were transported to their location, the students began planting some flowers using soil donated by a parent, water crystals and garden tools, again wearing safety equipment.  Students planted the correct plants to their matching season and finished off by giving them a good watering.  Some Mulch was added this week to help them grow.

You can see the pots in front of the library, near the staff car park entrance on the opposite side to the oval on Molbray Street.

These will be a great memory for the students and something they can come and see for years to come.

Well Done Grade 6! I wish you all well in your future ahead.
